NAO expands in the Netherlands: Alternative assets starting at 1 euro for private investors

Berlin, September 09, 2025 — The Berlin-based WealthTech NAO is bringing its proven co-investment concept to the Netherlands. From October, Dutch private investors will be able to invest from one euro in alternative investment options via the NAO app. This includes private equity, Private Debt, Venture Capital, infrastructure as well as Money market- and hedge funds. NAO's digital platform makes it as easy for Dutch people to invest in private markets as buying an ETF.
“Dutch people are financially savvy and open to innovative investment solutions in new asset classes. There is a distinctive DIY mentality when it comes to investing,” explains Robin Binder, founder and CEO of NAO. “Dutch people are looking for transparent and cost-effective solutions and want to invest in a self-determined manner. At the same time, alternative asset classes have so far been reserved for institutional investors and not available to retail investors. We are specifically addressing this gap in the market. ”
Dutch market: high wealth, untapped potential
The Netherlands is characterized by high per capita financial assets: This achieved 2023 over 117,000 euros and was thus 69 percent above the German level (69,060 euros). According to the Dutch Central Bank (DNB), Dutch households have accumulated a total of over 600.5 billion euros in accounts, including 487.1 billion euros in savings accounts.
At the same time, there is a high willingness to invest money. With a volume of 188.9 billion euros (1st quarter 2025), investments are made according to the Dutch financial supervisory authority (AFM) every fourth household in securities. The ratio shows untapped potential: Accounts hold three times as much capital as investment portfolios. The invested capital is concentrated on traditional asset classes. Alternative investments such as private equity, venture capital and infrastructure are reserved for institutional investors. Alternative asset classes offer historically attractive returns and are proving to be less volatile than equities.
After the start in Germany (June 2023) and Austria (August 2024), thousands of users already rely on WealthTech NAO to build up their wealth over the long term. The Netherlands is the second market in NAO's European expansion strategy, with other EU countries to follow. The curated offering is constantly being expanded.
